ABOUT SBC
The Swedish Burma Committee (SBC) is an independent organisation devoted to advancing human rights and democracy in Myanmar. We provide critical support to human rights and independent media organisations across Myanmar that are making significant contributions to defending human rights and laying the foundations for a democratic future.
Together with our partners, we influence international actors to take meaningful action on Myanmar, including implementing targeted sanctions against the military. The organisation is a registered non-profit organisation in Sweden with registration number 802409-9858. The turnover in 2025 was about 1,2 million EUR, with the majority of funds being distributed directly to partner organisations.
The Swedish Burma Committee is a member-based organisation. It is governed by a board of directors who are elected by the annual general meeting, the organisation’s highest decision-making body. The board of directors sets out SBC’s long-term strategy, determines policies and appoints the executive director. The executive director leads the daily work of the organisation and is responsible for all other staff.
SBC is subject to annual financial audits and regular external evaluations. The organisation is a member of the professional membership bodies Swedish Fundraising Control and the Swedish Fundraising Association. SBC also has so-called Equivalency determination (ED) status through NGOsource in the United States, which gives us a similar standing as a US-registered charity. Read more about ED here.
