Advocacy to end impunity and increase pressure on the military
The second component of our strategy supports human rights documentation, research and advocacy aimed at ending systemic impunity and increasing pressure on the junta. An important part of this work is to investigate and expose companies that sell arms and do business with the military junta, aiming to limit their access to money and weapons.
We support organisations that document human rights violations where the abuses occur, which are used by the UN and other actors who cannot access conflict affected areas of Myanmar themselves. The impact of this work is concrete. Evidence gathered by our partners has contributed to the ongoing judicial procedures in Argentina and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for alleged atrocities against the Rohingya population. Our partners have been instrumental in securing important sanctions against the junta, including in the oil and gas industry, and in lobbying governments and companies to take concrete action against the military.
