Oroligheter mellan muslimer och buddhister har varit en del av Burmas konfliktfyllda landskap i flera omgångar genom historien. 2012 fick dessa oroligheter nytt liv när våld bröt ut mellan de båda grupperna i landets västra delar. Attacker mot, framförallt muslimer, blev sedan allt vanligare över hela landet. 

Francis Wade undersöker de bakomliggande orsakerna till de anti-muslimska åsikter som  fått allt starkare fäste i det buddhistiska Burma. Boken visar hur en styrande elit lyckats med skapandet av bilden av en muslim som någon som inte hör hemma i Burma och på så vis lagt grunden för de religiösa konflikter som idag utspelar sig i landet.
